Legal Services Manager job at West Midlands Combined Authority

As the new Legal Manager, you will lead, motivate, develop and empower a team to deliver operational legal service, implement and maintain key legal initiatives, processes and procedures that set standards and reinforce a culture of accountability, integrity, quality, ethics. behavior and responsibility to provide a comprehensive, compliant, pragmatic and cost-effective legal service to the Authority.
What are you going to do?
- Work closely with stakeholders to identify legal service needs and manage resources, both external and internal, within budget to achieve maximum efficiency
- Lead the identification of legal risks and implications of Authority transactions, keep the Director of Law and Governance and management teams informed of legal changes and developments
- Provide leadership and management to direct reports and the wider team, ensuring individual development is aligned with WMCA goals and objectives, ensuring succession planning and organizational resilience team
- Provide training and support to stakeholders and wider communities to foster best practices and compliance in these communities
- Proactively network internally, externally and identify and implement best practices
- Implement fit-for-purpose operating systems across the portfolio, supporting one engine for fully online, integrated, efficient and user-centric operability
- Act as the Authority’s Deputy Oversight Manager, supporting the Director of Law and Governance in ensuring that Members and Officers receive timely advice on matters of law, corporate governance business and ethical framework
We are looking for a highly motivated and experienced strategic leader who has substantial knowledge and post-qualification experience in one or more of the areas covered by the WMCA, and who is committed to continuous improvement, passionate about capacity building and development of others.
The role will suit someone who can think strategically and systemically, while being comfortable with detail, has strong project and program management skills, with an ability to actively manage issues and seek solutions before they become problems and who has excellent stakeholder management skills with the ability to develop, maintain and strengthen partnerships with others inside or outside the WMCA.
Our ideal candidate will have a good understanding of the role of the West Midlands Combined Authority; its strategic goals and objectives, a working knowledge of local government procedures and knowledge of the legal regime in which a Joint Authority of Mayors operates.
