By Leslie Pappas (January 26, 2022, 7:50 PM EST) – A recent ruling by a Delaware bankruptcy judge that eliminated a debtor’s nearly $100,000 student loan debt has energized attorneys for consumer bankruptcy who say it pulls a harshly interpreted standard for “unfair hardship” back to its roots and could pave the way for broader student debt relief.

The 29-page notice, which appears to be the first to deal with the use of medical cannabis by a student loan debtor and is one of the few to deal with an expired payment deadline, was carefully drafted and has good chance of resisting the appeal, several lawyers said. Law360.
