Who We Are – Community Legal Services
Mission of Community Legal Services
Providing free legal services to Central Florida’s most vulnerable people, helping them protect their families, health and livelihoods.
why we are here
Commentary Legal Services is a full-service civil legal aid law firm that promotes equal access to justice, which is a core American value. About 50-80% of the legal needs of low-income Americans go unmet.
CLS provides professional legal assistance to help low-income people protect their livelihoods, health and families. We make it easier for the most vulnerable and disenfranchised Central Floridians to access legal information, obtain legal assistance and representation, and understand their rights.
CLS attorneys and attorneys can help resolve legal issues related to consumer protection, debt and creditors, family law, children and education, domestic violence, child abuse and elder neglect, health and income-related benefits, housing, and veterans’ benefits. Each year, we help thousands of Central Floridians obtain and maintain the basic necessities of life, including: food, shelter, healthcare, safety and education.
Nearly one million people in Central Florida are eligible for CLS services. Our attorneys, paralegals and attorneys provide free legal aid, helping over 20,000 people in Central Florida each year. We help low-income people solve urgent, non-criminal legal issues that make a difference in their daily lives, such as protecting the elderly from unlawful evictions, ensuring women and children are protected from violence at home and help veterans receive benefits they have earned and need.
